Mayday-Mayday-Mayday!
Scripture: Joel 2:1
Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand.
This month’s topic for meditation is a distress call, mayday — mayday — mayday. May Day is an emergency code, used internationally as a distress signal in radio communications. A mayday situation is one of great or imminent danger in which an aircraft, vehicle, vessel or person is in need of assistance. Whenever this call is heard, rescue teams and emergency preparedness teams spring into action. The Scripture quoted above in Joel 2:1 is a Mayday call. The prophet Joel is calling the nation of Israel to take note of their sins and turn to God. He was putting out a warning that can also apply to the day we are living in. The news is filled with reports of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, ecological disasters, and a plethora of foreboding situations that continue to occur around the world. It does not take a rocket scientist to realize that our nations as well as the nations of the world are in crises. The root cause of these crises is a turning away from the will and purposes of God that He has determined for each nation. There is a great shaking going on, and everything that can be shaken is being shaken.
There are many who are responding to the situation in our nation and world with fear. There are others who have a lackadaisical attitude and are only concerned about their welfare and could care less about the conditions that surround them. However, there are those who are hearing the Mayday call of God and are rising up to do the will of God and carry out His work in these difficult times. They are not afraid to declare the word of God and to stand for what they believe. Political correctness when it opposes the word of God is not a part of their agenda. The truth of the Word of God is the foundation on which they stand. Those who hear the Mayday call are positioning themselves to bring the demonstration of the power of God to an unbelieving world.
God is calling the Church in this hour to hear what the Spirit is saying, and to pull down strongholds of moral decadence and establish standards of righteousness. Passivity cannot be a part of the mindset of those who hear because their faith will be demonstrated by action. Matthew 11:12 says, “From the time of John the Baptizer until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful people have been seizing it (GW). The Mayday call is a clarion call to be answered by those who understand that it is high time to advance the Kingdom of God in the earth. Nothing short of full surrender to God will qualify one to be a part of the Army to advance His kingdom. Dear brothers and sisters do you hear the call? Have you surrendered your all to Him who through the Holy Spirit will enable you to do exploits in His Name? Now is the time.
