Hinds Feet

Scripture: Psalm 18:33 — He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.

The meditation for this month has been inspired by a series of pictures I saw on mountain goats. As I looked at these pictures, the scripture in Psalms 18: 33 immediately came to mind,” He maketh my feet like Hinds feet to go on my high places.”I also recalled one of my trips to the nation of Israel where I, along with the group I traveled with, were given the opportunity to see the Ibex or mountain goat, in its natural habitat. In fact, we were only a few feet from the rocks where the Ibex were. We were totally amazed at how fast they jumped from rock to rock going up the side of the mountain. They were very surefooted and never stumbled or fell as they leaped from rock to rock. This spoke volumes to me as I began to reflect on the faithfulness of God as we go through the tests and trials of life.

The mountain goat has feet that are especially constructed to allow him to go on the mountains. They are padded and have the ability to firmly grip the rocks, whether they are smooth or rugged. The only time it is subject to predators is when it goes down into the meadows to graze. This is very significant, because there are no other animals that can scale mountains and go as high up as the mountain goat. In our Scripture for meditation, David acknowledges that God is the One who has made his feet like that of a hind, so that he could go on the difficult places of life. The Amplified version of this Scripture states, “He makes my feet like Hinds feet [able to stand firmly or make progress on the dangerous heights of testing and trouble]; He sets me securely upon my high places.” Are you going through difficult times in your life? If so, you need to acknowledge as did David, that God is the one who gives you the ability to go through your tests and trials with the grace and agility of the hind.

The word of God tells us in Ephesians 2:6, that,” God has raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” We as people of God are meant to live above the vicissitudes of life and see from a different vantage point. God has equipped us by his grace with all that we need to come through the trials of life victoriously. Like the hind, as long as we remain in the high places we cannot be overtaken by predators, or in our case, the devil and his demons. In one of the series of pictures I mentioned earlier, a goat was standing atop the apex of a mountain with a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountain range. I thought how incredible it was that the goat had climbed to such great heights. I could only smile to myself as I realized that, God has made the feet of those who are in Him like that of this mountain goat and He will take us to great spiritual heights if we but follow, obey, and put our trust firmly in Him. He will set us on our high places. My friend, as you go through your week take time to meditate on this scripture and let the reality of what it says sink into your heart. There is no doubt that it will bring joy and great confidence to your spiritual journey.
